Hermis Iatrou

Professor Hermis Iatrou is active in the field of Polymer Chemistry, with research interests focused on the synthesis and characterization of polymeric and polypeptide systems with controlled macromolecular architectures. Particular emphasis is placed on understanding the relationship between structure and material properties, as well as on the development of complex and nanostructured systems with potential biomedical applications, including targeted drug and gene delivery. His research also explores the self-assembly behavior of polymeric materials through the use of advanced analytical techniques.

His scientific work comprises more than 180 publications in international peer-reviewed journals and book chapters, with approximately 15,000 citations and an h-index of 55. He has participated in numerous competitive research projects, often serving in scientific leadership roles, and has been a member of editorial committees and editorial boards of international scientific journals in the fields of Polymer Chemistry and Materials Science.

Nikolaos Thomaidis

Professor Nikolaos S. Thomaidis serves at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) in the field of Analytical Chemistry. His research focuses on the development and application of advanced analytical methodologies for the identification and quantification of chemical compounds in complex environmental, food, and biological samples. His work encompasses the use of high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS), advanced multivariate metabolomics approaches, and target, suspect, and non-target screening workflows for the detection of emerging contaminants and chemical hazards.

Particular emphasis is placed on the development of methodologies for food and beverage authenticity assessment and quality control, as well as on the application of wastewater-based epidemiology as a tool for public health evaluation. His scientific research integrates analytical chemistry, chemometrics, and LC–MS technologies to investigate environmental pollution and human chemical exposure.

His research achievements include an extensive publication record in high-impact international scientific journals, a high number of citations, and an h-index of 70. He has participated in and coordinated numerous competitive research projects at both the national and European levels. In addition, he actively serves as a reviewer and member of editorial boards for international scientific journals in the field.

Thomas Mauromoustakos

Professor Thomas Mavromoustakos has developed a multidisciplinary scientific career in the fields of Medicinal Chemistry and the study of bioactive molecules. His research focuses on the structure and behavior of pharmaceutical compounds and other bioactive molecules, as well as on their interactions with biological membranes. Particular emphasis is placed on the use of computational molecular modeling methods, NMR spectroscopic techniques, and thermal analysis methods (DSC) to investigate the conformation and functionality of biomolecules and pharmaceutical agents.

His work also encompasses the study of drug–membrane interactions, the structural characterization of biologically active compounds, and the application of advanced analytical techniques to address complex research questions in collaboration with universities and research institutions. His academic and administrative contributions include teaching, research leadership, and laboratory management, as well as the establishment and administration of research organizations and scientific initiatives.

Evangelos Bakeas

Prof. Evangelos Bakeas is Professor of Environmental Analysis at the Department of Chemistry of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) and Director of the Laboratory of Environmental Chemistry.

His research focuses on Analytical and Environmental Chemistry, with particular emphasis on separation techniques, gas and liquid chromatography, comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography, sample preparation, and the development of analytical methods for the determination of organic and inorganic pollutants in the environment. In parallel, his work encompasses atmospheric pollution, atmospheric chemistry, and environmental risk assessment.

His scientific contributions include numerous publications in international peer-reviewed journals and significant research achievements in the fields of air quality, organic micropollutants, particulate matter, and their impacts on the environment and public health.

In addition to his academic activities, he has held positions of scientific responsibility in governmental organizations and international scientific committees. He served as President of the Supreme Chemical Council of the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (IAPR), contributing to the development and evaluation of policies and regulations concerning the quality and safety of food, beverages, and consumer products.
